Raggedy Ann X15
These faces are not silk-screens or prints. Each one is individually painted in oil.
Red, the Dutch Girl
Red is the woman in the middle. This painting is on the large size — 60×40″ unframed. It’s oil paint on two-ply paper towels mounted on half-inch foam core. People ask me where these faces come from. The lion’s share come whole-cloth from the imagination. Some come from visual memory. Some are loosely based on an existing picture or painting. For example, the girl just to the right of “Red” is an homage to Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl With A Pearl Earring,” another Dutch girl. BTW, in the Chelsea show this September, 2013, large panels like this one were offered, beautifully framed, at $10,000 apiece.
Faces I
This is the first large panel of faces I painted on paper towels. This one won Second Prize at the Stamford art show.
Women Facing Discrimination
I’m a feminist, so discrimination upsets me as much as it upsets women, I suppose. This large work was sold to the CEO of a utility company.
Permanent Waves
Women love this painting. It always cheers me up.
CAUTION! REDHEADS AHEAD!
Nine Planet System
I know Pluto was downgraded. Don’t email me.
Couples I
I hope they live together happily ever after.
Couples II
These people were just made for one another!
Camp Wallabanga
The counsellors were a mixed bag, but the hikes were fun.
Six Pretty Faces
It’s hard being pretty.
Five Level Men
Men with backbone. Maybe from the Great Generation.
Five Level Ladies
I put these faces on my business card because they fit. No one liked them. I don’t either. Fine art is hard.
Dentist’s Delight
When I finished this I thought, OMG, this would be perfect for some successful dentist to acquire for his or her waiting room. A month later I traded it with my dentist for a crown!
First One Person Is Right…
This is a line from an Ibsen play. It’s an observation on how long it takes democracy to get it right.
Ebony and Ivory
This is a diptych on paper towels, beautifully framed and glazed, 20×32″. I painted it in 2013. Now it’s in vogue.
